Karen State, Myanmar · A city of refuge

Wei Ler Moo

One hundred acres of high ground above the Moei River — and a chance to build hope you can walk through.

This is more than a building project. This is hope. This is purpose. This is human kindness at its best.

The whole site

Seven buildings, one city.

Medical Center — care where the nearest hospital is a border away
Primary School — a classroom instead of a queue
Place of Worship — a sanctuary seating ~250
B4L Market — commerce, jobs & dignity
Secondary School + Dorms — a boarding school for the next generation
Energy & Water Plant — solar power from day one
Family Homes — an address of their own, at last
Walk through it

The buildings, one by one.

Each facility opens in 3D — orbit it, zoom in, and look inside every room. Below each one is exactly what it would take to build, at Thailand prices.

Medical Center

20 bedsOperating theatreOB/GYN · dental · eye2,100 m²
$ planning estimate

A fifteen-minute ambulance or boat ride instead of an hour and a half through checkpoints. A mother reaching a real delivery room; an elder cared for without needing a pass. Twenty beds, an operating theatre, OB/GYN, dental, eye, a lab and a pharmacy — the beating heart of the city.

Primary School

6 classroomsEarly childhoodLibrary & science1,900 m²
$ planning estimate

Veranda classrooms around an open courtyard — the form the Karen community already knows, built properly on safe ground. Six classrooms, early-childhood rooms, a library and a science room, with a covered assembly pavilion in the middle where the whole school gathers.

Place of Worship

~250 seatsBaptistryFellowship hall900 m²
$ planning estimate

Built around the Word and song — a sanctuary of about 250 seats with a baptistry, a choir and music space, a fellowship hall, and Sabbath School rooms. Its doors open wide from the courtyard: a place to come and encounter God, never forced, always welcome.

Bottles 4 Life Market

16 open stallsGrocery & cold room2 lease shops1,500 m²
$ planning estimate

The old and the new, side by side. An open-air fresh market for fruit, vegetables, fish and meat, beside an enclosed shop with grocery aisles and a cold room — plus lease units so local sellers get a real storefront. This is livelihoods and income, not just somewhere to shop.

Secondary School & Dorms

Labs & libraryBoys' & girls' dorms~48 beds2,900 m²
$ planning estimate

A school children can come to from across the border region — and stay. Classrooms, science and computer labs, a library, with boys' and girls' boarding dormitories, a dining hall and an assembly ground between. A springboard to the world. Two storeys would teach twice as many, built the safe way.

Energy & Water Plant

~1.2 MW solarBattery 24/73 boreholes16 m tower
$ planning estimate

The quiet system that makes everything else possible — and it serves both communities. Solar power with battery storage and a backup generator; boreholes, treatment and an elevated tower that sends clean water downhill by gravity to every tap. Let there be light.

Family Home (model)

2 bedroomsVeranda & gardenRainwater tank~60 m²
$ planning estimate

Where a city becomes “my home.” Two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and bath, a veranda for the cool of the evening, a kitchen garden and a rainwater tank of the family's own. Built for assisted self-build in clusters, so families help raise their own homes and the cost stays low. (Per home — a cluster of 100 homes is roughly $1.0M, phased.)

Every figure here is a planning estimate to help donors picture the work — not a final quote. Material quantities and prices must be confirmed with local Thai suppliers (builders' merchants such as Global House, Thai Watsadu or HomePro) and a quantity surveyor, and the exchange rate moves daily. Designs are schematic and must be detailed and certified by registered architects and engineers — with full geotechnical and seismic engineering and qualified site supervision — before any construction. Housing at scale, roads and site works are phased and additional to the figure above.
